Senior Connor Henderson led the Braves (1-0 in the league), scoring six goals
and handing out two assists.
Classmate Justin Tomzak added two goals and
also dished out two assists.
The Braves maintained that big first-quarter
lead at a commanding 10-2 by halftime. By game’s end, seven different players
had registered in the scoring column. “Our defense was really good, keeping them
down early and, I think, holding them scoreless in the first quarter,” said
Tomzak.
“I thought Geneva was a real good team. But we just came out
strong offensively, passing good with everyone getting open shots and finishing.
I felt it was a great team game.” Henderson expounded on his teammate’s
comments.
“When we got the ball in our end, we moved it around real well and just
finished our shots,” he said. “I felt that in the beginning our team defense was
strong with everybody helping and picking up ground balls.”
He also
talked about another aspect of the Braves’ game that was clicking.
“Our faceoff guys — Marshall Johnson and Kevin Peck — did a great job at
their game,” Henderson said. “And Scott (Bement) played a great game in the net,
too. It was just an all-around good team win.”
Mulheron agreed with his senior all-star.
“Scotty was real good in goal and our defense was shutting them down while our offense was clicking in every way,” he said.
